Sketching - Keep It Simple
Our trip is fast approaching! Some days we will paint and at other times you may wish to just do a bit of sketching. As you pack your painting gear don't forget to toss in a sketch book and your preferred pencils, and sketch tools.
I keep sketching very simple with a 6" x 6" sketch book. It fits into my purse or bag and the hard-cover is rigid enough to use when standing or seated. I really like the coil style as I can flip back the cover without fussing with of the usual book-style.
If you like to add shading or adjust the sketch, a pencil and eraser are probably already in your kit. My preference is to use a marker - and I don't erase. (If a sketch goes bad, I flip the page and start again.)
I carry a few different sizes: Ultra Fine Point and Fine Point, Sharpie Permanent Markers are inexpensive and easy to find. You may opt for a more archival ink marker if you prefer.
My sketches are extremely simple! I use them for painting plans and working through design ideas. Here are a few samples.
